Today we loaded up our stuff and headed to Yellowstone N.P. We arrived and set up our camping stuff for the last time on this journey. We have another great site and by the looks of it bear free!
We decided to start with the northern loop of Yellowstone. Throughout our drive we saw some of the smaller hot springs, many waterfalls, and lots of beautiful valleys. We also stopped off to see the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, not quite the same as the Grand Canyon we saw in our previous stops but still pretty amazing. Our first sighting of wildlife was a bald eagle; we actually had the opportunity to see her fly...what grace.
Our next adventure lead us to Dunraven Pass were we were told we might have the opportunity to see some big horn sheep. The only catch was you had to hike up to the top. No big deal, we've done hikes before. So the only catch to seeing the sheep was to hike and the only catch to the hike was that you started at an elevation of 8,400 feet and you hike to an elevation of 10,000+ feet in a matter of 3 miles one-way. Well we survived our last major hike. It was really only hard for the last 1/4 mile up...a bit windy. :-) We had a perfect view at the top of Mt. Washburn. Actually being this high up we had a perfect view of Yellowstone. So, did we find our big horn sheep? Unfortunately we didn't see any, but the view was worth it!
After our hike we decided to head back to camp and prepare dinner and a fire. On our way back we saw antelope, mule deer and bison.
